ORPHAN SPONSORSHIP
P2P’s Orphan sponsorship program for Orphans and vulnerable children in Ethiopia provides all basic necessities of life, including shelter, food, clothing, education, and health care for the orphans in the program.
The program has been in place since the founding of P2P and it is delivered in Ethiopia through a well-managed partnership with two reputable local NGOs – Hiwot Integrated Development Organization (HIDO) and Hanna Orphan Homes (HOH).
Over the past 25 years, the program has benefited several hundred orphans, many of whom have successfully completed their education and have become productive citizens.
There are currently 285 orphans being supported by the OSP program, with plans to steadily add more. While HIV/AIDS-related deaths in Ethiopia have decreased significantly, UNICEF estimates that the HIV/AIDS orphan population is still in the tens of thousands, many of whom do not receive the kind of comprehensive support that P2P provides to the children under its care.
The sponsorship program has consistently maintained a zero-overhead model. P2P engages in separate fundraising activities to cover program administration costs.
Of the 285 children who are currently in the program, 275 are supported by 168 sponsors while P2P directly supports the remaining 10. Recently, P2P has made important progress in digitizing the OSP program administration. This has improved data accessibility, efficiency, reporting and communication flow.
